Black Swan recently hosted a party to celebrate Janet Holmes à Court's birthday and her contribution over the years to Black Swan and Western Australian culture. As Black Swan's Founding Patron, Janet has been with us since the beginning - developing the very idea of Black Swan, driving our growth, and helping us develop into the state theatre company we are today. At the party, former Black Swan Artistic Director Andrew Ross made a speech to Janet that we'd like to share with you:
Black Swan State Theatre Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Natalie Jenkins as the Companys new General Manager and of Nicola Forrest to the Companys Board of Directors.
Another year, another successful 4ARTS Performing Arts Education Festival!
Sarah McNeill and Whitney Richards are two talented actors in Tim Winton's new play, Shrine. Sarah plays the wife of Adam (played by John Howard) and the mother of Jack, the boy who dies in a car accident. Whitney plays June Fenton, a small-town girl who has an important story to tell about Jack's last night. These ladies are emotional powerhouses on stage in this gripping production. We asked them to answer a few questions about themselves and where they are at.
We are in the second week of rehearsals for our next production, Shrine by Tim Winton! Director Kate Cherry, author Tim Winton and actor John Howard come together for a second time (the first being our 2011 production Rising Water) to bring this West Australian story to life on stage.
Black Swan State Theatre Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Andrew Harding to the Companys Board of Directors.

Heres a great show for book lovers! If you enjoy a complex story, a twist ending and plenty of food for thought, then youll love the Pulitzer Prize nominated Other Desert Cities. Straight from Broadway, its a profoundly moving drama about the generational and political divides in one family with a terrible secret to hide. It was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and five Tony Awards including Best Play. And it was written by Jon Robin Baitz, the writer of TV hits Brothers & Sisters, The West Wing and Alias.
The 4ARTS Performing Arts Education Festival is a joint project by Black Swan, the West Australian Ballet, the West Australian Opera and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Following the booked out success of the inaugural 4Arts Festival in 2012, Western Australias four major performing arts companies are coming together to do it all again - two days of free performances and workshops for students all under one roof!
