SATURDAY 19 OCTOBER
6pm – 10pm
Courtyard, State Theatre Centre
We will be hosting a special Punjabi Party in the State Theatre Centre Courtyard!
The Punjabi Party is the perfect complement to the show Fully Sikh, Australia’s first ever show about growing up Sikh in Perth by Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa. Step into the Courtyard from 6pm to 10pm and you will be transported into Sukhjit’s own backyard.
This free community event, presented by Barking Gecko Theatre and Black Swan State Theatre Company, is proudly supported by Lotterywest. Excite your senses with the smell of samosas, plates of sweet jalebi and your very own Bhangra dance. Mixtabishi – Australian’s number one Indian DJ company, will be supplying tunes all night, backed by the beat of two Dohl drummers.
Join the party, purchase some tasty treats from one of our delicious Indian food vendors and get ready to dance!
Fully Sikh season runs from 10 October to 3 November at the State Theatre Centre.
Bhangra dance lessons are at 6pm and 9pm. All levels of dance ability are welcome! This is a family friendly event and will be alcohol-free.
The Punjabi Party is part of a three week long Sikh Backyard Festival (a Mela) taking place each performance evening in the Studio Underground foyer at the State Theatre. Immerse yourself in Punjabi sights, sounds, smells, Carrom board games, turban tying and learning the Sikh culture. Everyone is welcome and this foyer event is free to all in the community, even if you haven’t purchased a show ticket.
Lotterywest: the only lottery in Australia where the profits are returned back to the local community.
