Our Process

Here at Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA, we look to program work that reflects current conversations. We delve into the canon to find classics, lost gems and the best of new theatre from Australia and the rest of the world. We commission playwrights to write new works and adaptations.

Once a week, the Artistic Director, Literary Director, Company Manager and all the Resident Artists meet. We discuss plays read, plays seen and plays heard about. We talk about issues that are affecting our community, about artists creating inspiring work, about a range of thoughts and ideas. Our programming begins to take shape from these conversations.

Conversations with professional colleagues also inform our discussions.

Our dynamic contemporary theatre cements Western Australian theatre artists as an integral part of the national cultural agenda.

We love sharing big ideas and a good night out.
