SO YOU WANT TO BE A PLAYWRIGHT?
Black Swan State Theatre Company's Emerging Writers' Group has been the hotbed for many successful plays, and has amongst its alumni Gita Bezard, Chris Isaacs, Tyler Jacob Jones, Frieda Lee, Joe Lui, Will O'Mahony, Zoe Pepper, Clare Testoni and Mararo Wangai.
Now Black Swan are on the hunt for the next batch of exciting emerging playwrights for their 2019 Emerging Writer's Group.
Each playwright will write a first draft of a new play with access to dramaturg/mentor Jeffrey Jay Fowler. They will be given workshops with professional actors and the potential of a professional public reading of their first draft. Members of the emerging writers’ group are given free tickets to all shows at Black Swan within the year. An honorarium of $1000 is offered to each writer for their time in the program.
The idea is to write a play with a cast of four or less that you can imagine being staged at Black Swan.
Writers from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Send your contact details, a one page playwright CV, a five page sample of your writing, and a one page play pitch to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline 5pm, 25 April 2019.
A small selection of applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss their playwriting ambitions and play concept.
Any Western Australian based playwrights who consider themselves to be emerging may apply.
Best of luck with your application. Any questions can be directed to email@example.com
