Black Swan State Theatre Company and Contemporary Asian Australian Performance present
Who are we, where are we and where are we going?
Join Black Swan State Theatre Company and Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP) for the inaugural Longhouse: Perth!
In some traditional societies, the longhouse is a meeting place where people gather to make plans, pass on their skills and share stories. The Longhouse is Contemporary Asian Australian Performance’s networking and information sharing program. It is aimed at building the Asian Australian professional performance community.
What does Western Australia hold for Asian Performance, stories and artists? The forum will delve into the many layers that comprise the possible answers to the question.
What is the history of Asian Australian art making in Perth? What are the experiences of Asian Australians making art? Where do we go from here? What do we hope to see?
CAAP’s Longhouse events put Asian Australian performance makers and artists in conversation with major performance companies. The inaugural Perth forum will give the local community opportunity to voice ideas and suggestions with Black Swan State Theatre Company.
The event will be hosted by CAAP Executive Producer, Annette Shun Wah. Annette is a freelance actor, writer and broadcaster. Alongside Annette, will be a panel of Perth based Asian Australian artists:
Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa – Poet, performer, playwright (Fully Sikh)
Yilin Kong – Contemporary dancer, performer and actor (A Ghost in My Suitcase)
Joe Paradise Lui – Local Jerkface (Black Swan Resident Artist, ‘Spirit of the Fringe’)
Following the panel discussion, we invite you to stay for a Q&A and networking.
So come down and get to know and be a part of your local Asian Artist community, as well as your state theatre company.
