Creative Ground Workshops

Creative Ground workshops are open to anyone who is artistically curious aged 18 years and over.

These three-hour workshops are held in the Middar Room at the State Theatre Centre of WA and led by highly skilled and passionate theatre artists and practitioners, who will create a supportive framework for life-learners to explore creative processes and meaningful self-expression.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

  • 10am - 1pm Saturday 14 August - Physical Theatre

    Learn how to create story and character through a range of physical theatre activities. Dr. Teresa Izzard will lead you through a range of contemporary physical theatre devising activities inspired by the methodologies of Laban, Somatic Movement for actors and supported by a unique combination of training methodologies: Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints and Composition.

  • 10am - 1pm Saturday 21 August - Building Character

    Learn how to approach text to create specific and memorable characters. Guided by actor Caitlin Beresford-Ord, participants will explore how to interpret clues within the text, character motivation and physical/vocal embodiment.

  • 2pm - 5pm Saturday 21 August - Character Dialogue

    Explore techniques for writing engaging dialogue for the stage. This workshop is facilitated by Hellie Turner, who will guide participants in ways to hone character and dialogue to engage an audience and propel the action forward.

  • 10am - 1pm Saturday 9 October - Scene Study

    Explore the motivations and relationship dynamics between characters. This workshop is facilitated by Caitlin Beresford-Ord.

  • 2pm - 5pm Saturday 9 October - Direct It

    Inspire connected and compelling performances from actors. This workshop is facilitated by Caitlin Beresford-Ord.
