While WA continues to tackle the impact of COVID, we regret to announce our upcoming season of Barracking for the Umpire by Andrea Gibbs has been postponed. The difficult decision has had to be made in light of the increased COVID restrictions that apply to theatres, as well as WA's ever-growing COVID infections and the associated risk of those infections to our audience, our artists, the crew and the creative team behind the production.
However, we've dusted ourselves off and - after a team huddle - we have a new game plan! We are pleased to confirm the new Barracking for the Umpire season will follow on from all the AFL finals fever later this year, with performances now from 3 - 23 October 2022, at the Subiaco Arts Centre.
Director Clare Watson said, “Our artists, creatives and crew are excited to present the world premiere of this work, which was inspired by real events and Andrea Gibbs' family’s passion for football. We are very much committed in bringing footy back to Subi and sharing this hard-hitting, laugh out loud family drama that tackles the heavy topics of Australia’s beautiful game.”
Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled season and all ticketholders have been contacted. Please note, there is no need to contact our Ticketing Team at this stage.
We remind everyone to get double-vaccinated against COVID, and to receive your third dose when eligible. For more information, visit the COVID Safety page on our website.
We look forward to welcoming you into the theatre to see this hard-hitting, laugh out loud family footy drama, later in the year.
Barracking for The Umpire was commissioned by Black Swan State Theatre Company and supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation and City of Perth as part of the Funny Girl initiative.
