"Thank you for the opportunity to play such an incredible role, in a play that has had a huge effect on me. I have used every tool in the actors’ toolbox … by virtue of the huge challenge that it was, it’s made me a better performer. But more than that, it has made me a better equipped human." - Luke Hewitt, Actor (Every Brilliant Thing)
Making better humans…now that’s a big call!
If as a business (and they don’t call it ‘show business’ for nothing), we can make better humans, then that’s a business I hope we all can be a part of.
As a theatre company we have a seemingly straightforward task...put on shows. If that was all we did, we would be missing a great deal of our purpose.
In 2021 we celebrate 30 years of history - 220 productions engaging almost 2500 performers…many of whom have started their career, have honed their craft, or have been given a platform with Black Swan at that critical point in their careers, that has seen them go on to amazing things - to write, or direct, or produce.
From our first production to our most recent production, The Tempest, as a State Theatre Company we create opportunity. Opportunity for our audiences to explore ideas, opportunity to turn ideas into reality, and opportunity for our artists to move people and make a difference in their lives.
This is what we do as a theatre company. This is what we’ve always done, and this is what we will continue to do for the next 30 years and beyond.
Thank you for your continued interest in your State Theatre Company.
And in whatever way you engage with us, or our arts industry colleagues next year…enjoy the show!
