This world premiere season of Unsung Heroes, directed by Emily McLean and Joe Paradise Lui, features five tour-de-force performances from a group of dedicated actors who have performed with the company over many years and two actors/writers who are making their acting debuts for the company.
The program features performers Caitlin Beresford-Ord (Assassins, As You Like It, Cat on a Hot tin Roof, The White Divers of Broome), Chris Isaacs (playwright Flood), Jo Morris (Angels in America, A Streetcar Named Desire, Laughter on the 23rd Floor), Alison van Reeken (Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, The Next Room/The Vibrator Play, Let the Right One) and Mararo Wangai (Emerging Writers’ Group).
Performing solo requires a different kind of rigour for an actor, especially when sharing biographical stories and re-imagining performance for the digital stage. Each actor has relished researching their characters, and in some cases had the opportunity to meet with them in person, helping them to delve further into their character’s strengths, courage, sense of humour, musicality and language.
Unsung Heroes is a timely reminder about the power of one person speaking out, telling their truth and celebrating the ordinariness of everyday moments.
From Tuesday 21 July until Monday August 3, these monologues will be streamed live and on demand for free for registered attendees. Watch Unsung Heroes free live and on demand. Register now via our website: https://bit.ly/38WfbDD
